Aldi hacks: Mum shares shopping hack after saving £48 on her weekly food shop

Aldi is said to be the UK’s fifth largest grocery retailer and competes with low prices against rival discounter Lidl. Aldi has become more popular in the past few years and while their household items including groceries are often cheap, they also offer further discounts in store if you know when and how to get hold of them.

One person commented: “It’s running out of date in 2 days, what are you going to do with it?”

The woman explained that she was going to fit everything she could into the freezer and then will use up the rest before it runs out of date.

Another Aldi shopper shared to the same Facebook groups how she managed to save money by shopping for the red sticker deals.

She wrote: “Went to get some essentials this morning and ended up with fab meals on meat.”

The website explains: “Generally you don’t want to see red at the supermarket, but at Aldi we’ll make an exception. That’s because the store uses red stickers to flag up its big discounts, meaning the item is at least 50 percent off.

“So keep an eye out for red while you’re cruising the aisles and you may just pick up a stonking deal.

“These discount stickers tend to be dished out at the start of the day as part of a ‘secret hour’ ‒ which changes depending on the individual store -, rather than the end of the day as is the case with the big supermarket names, so if you really want to save you may need to pop down to your local Aldi early.”

Like other supermarkets, there are certain times of the day you can shop to make your shopping experience better and have the chance to catch some goodies.

Love Money says: “If you go to a budget supermarket during peak times, the crowds can throw you off your bargain hunting game, so try to plan to go when it will not be so hectic.

“The busiest periods will be Friday evenings, Saturday mornings or on Thursdays and Sundays when the specialbuys go on sale.”
