Android tips: How to free up storage space on your Android phone
Whether or not your Android phone has expandable storage via a microSD card, it remains all too easy to use up your allotted space, whether it is 32GB or 200GB. Fortunately, there are some simple tips for freeing-up storage on an Android phone.
Clearing the cache:
Most Android apps use stored, or cached, data to offer users a better experience.
Although cached data conserves mobile data, the stored files are not strictly necessary.
Users needing free-up space on their phone should consequently start with the app cache.
To clear cached data from a single app, navigate to Settings, Applications, Application Manager, then tap on the app you wish to modify.
In the app’s Application information menu, select Storage and then choose Clear Cache.
To clear cached data from all apps, toggle to Settings, Storage and tap Cached data to clear the caches of all of your phone’s apps.

Deleting downloads:
Android phones have a downloads folder where everything downloaded, from photos, videos and other files is found.
Most of these files found in the downloads folder are likely unimportant.
Users should, therefore, be able to free up storage space by deleting this unnecessary data.
The downloads folder, also known as My Files is found in the app drawer.
Simply tap and hold a file to select it, select the trash can, followed by the remove or delete button to get rid of the files.
Before you permanently delete any files, be sure to double-check you won’t need them later.
Transfer apps to the phone’s microSD card:
Apps likely consume the most storage space on your Android phone.
Fortunately, many Android phones allow users to add a microSD card for extra storage, meaning they can migrate some storage-sucking apps off the phone.
Do this by opening Settings and visit Applications, Application manager, then tap the app you wish to move to the microSD.
If the app can be moved, the Move to SD Card option will appear.
Tap this button to move the app to the microSD card – some phones may require users to tap Storage to find this option.
Only part of the app will be moved to the microSD card – how much of it will be moved depends on the app.
Unfortunately, many large games will not move much of their data to the microSD card.
Move apps to the trash:
After following these suggested steps and space is still required, users will have to start deleting data.
Most phones feature apps that are rarely used.
To understand which apps consume the most space, open Settings and head to Storage, then Apps.
This creates a list of apps sorted by file size, with the biggest apps at the top.
To delete an app, tap it and then tap the “i” icon next to the app’s name, then tap uninstall to get delete the app.
