Anthony Joshua vs Kubrat Pulev: Shock Royal Albert Hall plan hatched by Eddie Hearn

Anthony Joshua‘s showdown with Kubrat Pulev could be held at the Royal Albert Hall, his promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed. Joshua is tentatively slated to defend his unified titles against the Bulgarian at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on July 25.

The pair’s meeting, which has been over three years in the making, was initially slated to take place on June 20.

The coronavirus outbreak, however, laid waste to those plans and led to the fight being postponed.

Given the current climate, in particular the restrictions on mass gatherings, it’s likely the bout won’t go ahead as planned.

Hearn, however, is confident crowds will slowly be allowed to attend sports events in the autumn.

Staging the fight in front of a small crowd will see both Joshua and Matchroom Boxing miss out on a huge chunk of change from ticket sales.

Hearn is seemingly resigned to missing out on the live gate but still hopes to attract a crowd later this year.

He added: “If you are doing 1,000 tickets, there is a dinner before and an after-party.

“It is a hell of a ticket if you are a fight fan to go and watch something like that so close up.

“We just have to be creative; people will want to go out.

“It will take time for people to rediscover the confidence to go to event with crowds.

“I know there is a chance there could be a second spike, but if they start opening up restaurants in July and outdoor pubs, it will be very difficult to not allow gatherings of 100, 200, 500 or 1,000.”

Joshua, 30, was last in action in Saudi Arabia last December, where he reclaimed the unified heavyweight titles with a unanimous decision victory over Andy Ruiz Jr.
