Austria has been chosen to host the first race as it has only had 15,493 coronavirus cases and 596 deaths.
The country’s Sports Minister Werner Kogler recently said that the government “don’t want to get in the way” of its home Grand Prix and Ecclestone has the inside track on this.
This is because the Austrian Grand Prix is run by his close friend Dietrich Mateschitz, the billionaire co-owner of energy drinks company Red Bull.
“Dietrich said he is very happy to run the race. Not going to have any spectators but he has said he will run the race,” says Ecclestone.
The race is due to be held at the Red Bull Ring track and Ecclestone adds: “Dietrich has got the staff there, all the workers come from there, all the volunteers will still be there and be happy.
“Austria is not too much locked down. So it is a little bit free.
“The problem is whether or not teams can come out of Italy, whether the tyre company can come out of Italy. That will be the problem.”
