In order for your hair to reach its maximum potential, the body needs to be nourished on the inside. Taking supplements could be the easy solution to have great hair.
Health store and pharmacy Superdrug attested that hair loss can be attributed to a poor diet or nutritional deficiency.
In this case, “hair growth supplements may help”. There are seven specific types that are related to hair growth, what are they?
Iron is essential for hair growth. If you have too little iron, Superdrug stated it’ll disrupt the “hair growth cycle”.
The hair growth cycle is made up of three stages: anagen, telogen, catagen.
During the anagen (growth) phase, hair specialist Philip Kingsley explained this part of the hair growth cycle can last up to seven years.
However, some people – especially if they are deficient in nutrients – may only experience this phase for as little as three years.
The catagen phase follows on from the anagen phase, and is a short transitional period that lasts for up to 10 days.
Then there’s the telogen phase – a resting phase – where the hair strand is released and falls out.
The hair follicle then remains inactive for three months, before the whole process is repeated.
Too little iron in your diet can “cause hair loss” by disrupting this cycle.
Superdrug continued to say that vitamin A is needed to create “an oil known as sebum”.
Sebum “helps keep the scalp conditioned and healthy”; without it, the hair is likely to become “dry and brittle” – and nobody wants that.
The next supplement you may want to consider taking to promote hair growth is vitamin C.
This antioxidant “helps the body absorb iron”, said Superdrug. And, as noted before, inadequate amounts of iron can lead to hair loss.
Adding on from iron, vitamin A and vitamin C, Superdrug insisted vitamin D “is so important for hair growth”.
Superdrug explained: “If your zinc levels are too low, your body will produce more DHT, which can lead to hair loss.”
It may be worth taking supplements that contain amino acids, as it’s thought to be “essential for hair growth”.
This is because amino acids help the body to “produce keratin and grow hair”.
Last of all, top up on omega acids that “provide the necessary oils that keep your scalp healthy and hydrated”.
Supplements are recommended for nutritional deficiencies, as most of these can be sourced from a well-balanced diet.
