Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports a young boy had been stabbed in a house.
The Ambulance Service confirmed that a boy under 10 had been taken to Manchester Children’s Hospital and he is believed to be “alert”.
The shocking incident happened about 3pm this afternoon.
A police cordon remains in place as officers investigate the incident.
Crime scene investigators are at the scene combing through the front yard, Manchester Evening News (MEN) reports.
A 4×4 vehicle, believed to be an unmarked police car containing several people, just sped through the cordon and away from the scene with lights flashing, according to a reporter at the scene.
Residents say they are shocked at the news and have wished the boy and his family well.
The boy’s next door neighbour told MEN: “He’s just a normal, happy little boy. I can’t believe this has happened.”
One resident who lives in the street says she fears for her own children after this incident.
She told the newspaper: “It’s such a quiet street, I came outside and there was a helicopter overhead. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Local resident Emma Collins said: “They’re such a quiet family, I don’t think the kids really play out. Just a really nice family.”
Greater Manchester Police have yet to release a statement.
