Boxing fans react after Katie Taylor beats Delfine Persoon in undisputed fight – ‘ROBBED’

Taylor produced an incredible performance to beat the Belgian world champion, but appeared to be bested by the more experienced opponent.

Persoon, by many fans accounts, did more than enough to beat the Irish star, after rocking the heavy favourite multiple times throughout.

She left the arena in tears after the decision was announced, as Taylor was left alone in the ring to pose with her new belt.

Taylor fought well, but Persoon was too gritty and tough for the Irish girl, and showed her experience at numerous occasions.

Despite suffering a brutal eye injury, Persoon asserted herself in the centre of the ring for the second half of the fight, and appeared to be dominating the close exchanges.

Going into the final round, the bout seemed to be two rounds in the Belgian’s favour, and the WBC champion rocked Taylor many times throughout the last two minutes.

Taylor appeared to be seconds from being stopped at one point, but kept throwing punches back at her opponent.

As soon as the result was read out, famous faces from the world of boxing took to Twitter to calm the result was incorrect.

Former world champion Stuart Hall wrote: “That is what is wrong with boxing.”

“Noooooooooo. That is simply WRONG,” Lou DiBella wrote.

Heavyweight Dave Allen posted: “I’m happy for Katie Taylor but for persoon I’m gutted.”

Taylor insisted that the decision was correct, saying she did enough to win.

“It was a very close fight but I feel like I did enough for the win,” she told Sky Sports.

Fight fans were left raging at the decision, and called for an immediate rematch between the pair.

One wrote: “Katie Taylor did not win that at all. Lost by 2-3 rounds. Persoon robbed.”

“Wow delfine persoon just got robbed,” another posted.

One fan tweeted: “Persoon clearly won the fight by 2 rounds and was robbed. clearly won the fight by 2 rounds and was robbed.”
