Under the lockdown, social gatherings are banned while Mr Johnson also insisted the public must stay at home where possible. The police have now been given powers to enforce the measures and pictures have emerged this week, showing members of the public being asked to return home. There have also been reports of local police being forced to break up parties.
With that in mind, we asked Express readers, ‘Do you know someone breaking Boris Johnson’s lockdown rules?’
In response, 844 people said they did know someone who was continuing to break the lockdown rules.
In contrast, 703 said they didn’t, while just 63 they weren’t sure.
Commenting on the poll, one reader said: “Most of London, and dog walkers.”
Another person said: “No. If the restrictions were enforced more strictly, from the start, then there would be no need.
“Zero tolerance towards those breaching any of the measures.”
Another said: “Yes I saw the neighbours walk their dog twice yesterday.
“Who should I phone?”
Another said: “ I know loads of people not taking it seriously.”
Today, England’s deputy medical officer, Jenny Harries admitted the social distancing measures could be extended.
Mr Johnson said the Government would revisit the measures three weeks on from the announcement this week where restrictions could be relaxed.
However, with the virus continuing to spread across the country, Ms Harries the measures could last for up to six months.
She said: “We must not then suddenly revert to our normal way of living. That would be quite dangerous.
“If we stop then all of our efforts will be wasted and we could potentially see a second peak.
“So over time, probably over the next six months, we will have a three-week review.
“We will see where we are going.
“We need to keep that lid on – and then gradually we will be able to hopefully adjust some of the social distancing measures and gradually get us all back to normal.”
