Apple has a clever plan to make buying its latest kit a little more affordable. According to the latest whispers, the Cupertino-based company is planning to bring interest-free payment plans to a number of its products, including Apple AirPods, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and iPads.
Apple will offer customers a choice of either 6-month or 12-month interest-free payments plans depending on the product in your basket.
Unfortunately, this option will only be available to Apple Card holders. This titanium credit card is currently only available in the United States, so those in the UK will have to wait for the card, which is issued by Goldman Sachs and is managed using the Apple Wallet app on your iPhone, to arrive.
For Apple Card owners in the United States, all iPad models, as well as every Mac currently on-sale will be available with a 12-month payment plan from within the Apple Wallet app. Apple Pencil, iPad keyboards, and XDR Display for the new Mac Pro can also be bought using this plan. Those who fancy treating themselves to a brand-new pair of Apple AirPods (standard, or Pro), Apple HomePod, or Apple TV will be able to repay the total cost over six months interest-free, Bloomberg has reported.
Last year, Apple rolled out a 24-month, interest-free payment plan for iPhones purchased with an Apple Card. As with all purchases from the Apple Store with an Apple Card, customers will get 3 percent cashback on their purchase too. The same should be true of all the new payment plan options.
Apple hasn’t commented on reports of the new interest-free plans. However, it makes complete sense. Given the devastating impact of the ongoing public health crisis, payment plans are a great way to tempt customers to continue upgrading their handsets, laptops, desktops and other gadgetry.
In the UK, Apple has partnered with Barclays to offer a number of interest-free payment plans. However, unlike those purportedly coming to Apple Card owners on the other side of the pond – these don’t offer any cashback options for customers. Barclays does allow customers to repay the cost of their AirPods, Apple TV, iPad and a number of other products from the online store up to 24-months interest-free.
Payment plans from PayPal, which includes 14.9% interest, are also available to those who don’t fancy paying outright during the checkout process in the UK. These new payment options for Apple Card owners arrive weeks after all-new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models launched worldwide.
