Call of Duty Modern Warfare update: BIG PS4 and Xbox One patch news for COD Warzone

This week’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare update will bring some interesting changes to COD Warzone on PS4, Xbox One and PC. And if you’re not a fan of Battle Royale gameplay, the development team behind MW have also confirmed that a new multiplayer map is arriving this week too. No set release date has been confirmed yet for the next Call of Duty Modern Warfare update but there’s a good chance it will arrive on Tuesday, May 19, 2020.

This is the usual date for big patches to be released, although we will probably have to wait for further news for this to be confirmed.

If the next Call of Duty update is small in size, Activision may choose to release it at around 6pm, GMT.

However, the larger the update, the more likely Activision will be to launch the new update at a quieter time, meaning it will be more likely to arrive at around 7am GMT, the following morning.

Whenever it does arrive, we now know what big tweaks Activision and Infinity Ward have planned.

For Call of Duty Warzone, gamers can look forward to a change in Gulag weaponry and the release of a new Armor Box.

The Gulag is a place where you can win redeployment by duelling a single opponent, and this is usually done with pistols and shotguns.

However, this week’s Call of Duty Warzone update will expand the Gulag arsenal, making it possible to load in with an SMG or Assault Rifle.

A message from Activision explains: “First, players will now find SMGs and assault rifles in the Gulag.

“While you can still receive a shotgun or pistol, be aware that different weapon classes are now being handed out in this fight for your life.

“The new weapon choices include the AK-47, M13, Kilo 141, Ram-7, Striker 45, and more.

“SMGs and assault rifles both expand the range of engagements in the Gulag, so be careful if you decide to rush your opponent.”

Players have different strategies when it comes to trying to win a victory in the Gulag, and it seems likely that there could be more long-distance standoffs following this week’s patch release.

Another change coming this week includes the new Armor Box, which will be available in all modes in Warzone.

Similar to a Munitions Box, this item can be used by the entire team to replenish their armor before or after an engagement.

The Armor Box will be available to find in ground loot, Supply Boxes, or by purchasing it at a Buy Station.

By holding an Armor Box until the final circle, squads may soon be able to replenish their defensive capabilities before going for the final push for victory.

Activision has also confirmed the release of a new limited time mode named Classic Battle Royale.

This mode strips down Battle Royale and features no Buy Stations, no Contracts, and no Gulag, meaning that If you’re out, you’re out.

This week in Modern Warfare will also see the release of the multiplayer map Hardhat, as well as Gunfight battleground, featured in Aisle 9.

Hardhat is described as a haven for close quarters, fast-paced, and frenetic combat, but also features some longer sightlines, so a variety of loadout types can find success.
