Call of Duty Modern Warfare update: COD Warzone Playlist patch news

This week has seen another new Call of Duty Modern Warfare update go live on PS4, Xbox One and PC. This one included a big Playlist change that alters the dynamic in Call of Duty Warzone Trios. And it’s also the only major Playlist tweak registered as part of the new Call of Duty patch notes. The good news is that this is a limited-time mode, meaning it won’t be replacing Warzone Trios forever.

But for now, it means that Warzone Trios no longer includes the familiar features found in the Call of Duty Battle Royale experience since launch.

Developers Infinity Ward has removed Cash, Contracts, the Gulag, Loadouts, and Respawns.

This leaves you with just one shot at winning the whole map against all the other teams that drop into Verdansk.

A message from Activision explains more about the new Classic Battle Royale mode, adding: “Brush up on the fundamentals in a new limited-time mode – Classic Battle Royale.

“This mode strips down Battle Royale and features no Buy Stations, no Contracts, and no Gulag.

“If you’re out, you’re out. Survive the enemies and the ever-collapsing circle to be the last team standing.”

More Call of Duty Warzone updates are expected in the coming weeks, to accompany the ending of Season 3.

Things have already started changing ahead of the Season 4 release, including the opening of the new Bunker locations.

This includes Bunker 11, which has a few hidden Easter eggs inside. There has also been the first official Season 4 tease, featuring Captain Price.

Another tease shared this week comes from Activision, which adds more on the Warzone storyline.

“We have received word of a prototypical weapon hidden underground in Verdansk,” the official teaser adds.

“Operator teams are already identifying where this weapon is, but at time of transmission, we do not know if they have been granted full access to its location.

“We have successfully disrupted aq communications and have wiretapped their calls. Unfortunately, they have countered our efforts with scramblers.

“The calls are now going to multiple hardlines in Verdansk. Listen closely to what they are saying during these transmissions, and brush up on your russian – you might need it.

“Intel suggests the holding area containing the prototype opens via marked telephones in Verdansk. Furthermore, the access code changes frequently – aq knows this prototype is dangerous, not a toy.

“Be wary of aq sleeper agents spreading false codes to deter access to both enemies and allies. These codes may be shared through civilian media – e.g., videos, social media – and are not viable for completing this mission.

“The powerful prototype weapon is meant to be used by aq elite forces. We believe it to be a custom-built submachine gun. Extracting this weapon will further cripple their defenses and bolster our own arsenal.

“This operation is top secret and should not be shared outside of armistice. We risk losing Verdansk and starting global thermonuclear war if the extraction operation is compromised.

“Do not trust anyone outside of your squad in Verdansk. Treat anyone – including those within armistice – trying to access this prototype as a hostile force.

“Repeat: access the area, extract the prototype. weapons free on all threats to the operation.”
