In Brighton, the council says: “The seafront should just be used for essential exercise by people living nearby, not for meeting friends or sunbathing, and not for swimming in the sea.”
Over in Cornwall, Newquay Police said that while beaches may be open, people should not be participating in watersports.
“You should not be driving to the beach to go surfing,” a statement read.
“The RNLI has stated that as there are no lifeguards on our region’s beaches it is not recommended that you exercise in the sea.”
