Fans of the long-running ITV soap know Geoff (played by Ian Bartholomew) has abused Yasmeen (Shelley King) for over a year by locking her in their house, taking control of her finances and wardrobe, and cutting her off from her friends. Eventually Yasmeen snapped as she feared Geoff was going to kill her and hit him in the neck with a broken wine bottle. Now she is in prison and Geoff has told his neighbours on Coronation Street it was Yasmeen who was the abuser in the relationship.
But Geoff’s lie isn’t believed by everyone with Yasmeen’s granddaughter Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) and neighbour Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor) determined to expose his true colours.
Trying to make sure his facade doesn’t slip, Geoff reached out to Yasmeen last night with a proposition for his wife.
Fans saw Geoff steal Alya’s phone when he heard she was expecting a call from her grandmother.
When Yasmeen called, Geoff picked up and left her shaken as she asked why he had answered instead of Alya as she feared her granddaughter was in danger.
“I have a proposition for you,” Geoff told her in his usual sinister manner.
Official soap spoilers have revealed Geoff will tell Yasmeen he will drop the charges against him if she returns home as his wife.
Over the past few weeks, Yasmeen has slowly begun to realise she was abused and controlled by Geoff – will she realise this is another manipulative move?
It’s not known how long the phone call will go on for when the soap resumes on Monday or what exactly will be said but fans think Geoff’s latest move could be used against him.
“Didn’t think of that one, did you? #Corrie.”
“Aren’t prison calls recorded or listened to…#corrie,” a third continued.
Someone else posted: “Isn’t every phone call from prison recorded. Hope Geoff gets found out! #Corrie.”
A fifth tweeted: “I hope @itvcorrie producers realise all prison calls are recorded so Geoff can be punished for calling Yasmeen. Ugh he really gets under my skin #coronationstreet #corrie.”
While some of the Weatherfield residents start to turn their back on Geoff, last night an unexpected ally emerged – Tyron Dobbs (Alan Halsall).
As Tyrone overhead an argument between Geoff and Alya in Speed Daal about Yasmeen, he made it clear he was on the magician’s side.
He slammed Yasmeen for “lying” and told Geoff to “hang in there” before inviting him for dinner.
Fans know Tyrone was abused by Kirsty Soames (Natalie Gumede) in 2012 so it’s understandable he would side with Geoff.
No doubt Tyrone will feel betrayed and devastated when he learns the truth about Geoff and his manipulation.
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV at 7.30pm.
