Professor Tim Lang told Channel 4 News that there has been a “revolution” in the British food system over the last 40 years and as a result supermarkets do not keep months of food in storage. Professor Lang stated that supermarkets work with a “just in time” approach towards food storage and that this is “very to easy to disrupt”.
Channel 4 News’ Matt Frei then asked: “Should we have organised stock pilling?”
Professor Lang replied: “No because the system can’t deliver it!”
At the time of writing Britain has the 10th highest amount of COVID-19 cases in the world.
The UK has more than 1,500 cases in total.
More than 79,000 people worldwide have recovered from being infected with the coronavirus.
There are currently more than 95,000 active COVID-19 cases in the world.
162 countries at the time of writing have a confirmed case of COVID-19 coronavirus.
Europe is now the epicentre of the coronavirus pandemic.
