The Princess married Prince Charles when she was just twenty years old, going from being a virtually unknown teenager into one of the most famous women in the world. In front of thousands of cameras, The Princess of Wales married Prince Charles on 29 July 1981 at St Pauls Cathedral.
She later claimed the reported “fairytale wedding” was in fact “the worst day of her life” on an audio interview conducted in 1991 for a book on her time in the royal family.
Now royal expert Leslie Carroll has claimed that if Princess Diana could see her youngest son Prince Harry now, she would be proud of the progressive steps he’s taken to protect his family.
She told Express.co.uk: “I believe Diana would have been delighted. She loved America; and no one understood better than Diana how suffocating the palace protocols were, especially to members of the family who could not be in lockstep with them.”
A source has said that she would have been “delighted” that Harry has moved away from the palace.

“Diana and Harry—and Meghan, as well—are all very physically and emotionally expressive people who wear their hearts on their sleeves, behaviour that is antithetical to the public persona of a royal,” Ms Carroll added.
The author went on to reveal how Diana often felt as though she “stood out” while in the monarchy, and often this would lead to her feeling ostracised.
“Diana understood as well what it felt like to be criticised by the ‘men in grey,’ as she nicknamed the palace bureaucrats, for being different from the other members of the royal family.”
She also explained how the young generation has taken the Princess of Wales lead in fighting for their causes.

Ms Carroll said: “Harry and Meghan are more progressive in many ways (and from the beginning of their relationship Harry has called out certain elements of Britain’s press for their coverage of Meghan and her mother, citing specific headlines and pull-quotes).”
“This has not abated even after the Sussexes stepped back from their duties as full-time royals; and the responses to their step-back from some in the media, and from online trolls, have even proven the couple’s point all the more!“ She added
Since moving to Los Angeles, both Meghan and Harry have been focusing on charity work and setting up their own philanthropic organisation.
The expert commented: “As examples of their continued commitment, and very much in Diana’s mould, Harry and Meghan are continuing their philanthropic endeavours from Los Angeles.

Diana suffered her own harsh struggle under the spotlight that was well documented in her interviews.
After her separation from Prince Charles, the newly independent Princess Diana began to share her experiences with the press, during the doomed royal marriage.

Diana openly expressed her sadness at the continued attention she experienced from the media as she tried to give her two sons a “normal” life.
The princess took the children on family vacations, volunteer trips, and visits to amusement parks and fast-food restaurants.
“I’ve taken the children to all sorts of areas where I’m not sure anyone of that age in this family has been before,” she told BBC in 1995.
“And they have knowledge – they may never use it, but the seed is there, and I hope it will grow because knowledge is power.”

However, despite her best efforts, the young princes were never quite out of the headlines.
As Harry, in particular, grew older, he began to feel resentful about the intrusion into his life.
In an interview last year on ITV, Prince Harry revealed the effect his royal lifestyle had won his mental health, which he said required “constant management”.
