Disney+ UK launch this week but is your home ready to access this new streaming service?

After months of waiting, Disney+ finally arrives in the UK this week. This content-packed streaming service launches on March 24 with it featuring movies and shows from the likes of Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars. Although this is hugely exciting news for those who love to binge of all things Disney, you will need to make sure your home is ready to receive this new service.
So, if you are looking forward to watching endless films and exclusive TV shows here’s what you’ll need.
YOU’LL NEED TO PAY £5.99 PER MONTH
First up, you’ll need to register before you can view anything on Disney+. There’s two ways of paying for this service with a monthly option costing £5.99 and a yearly membership priced at £59.99 – which is obviously the cheaper way to tune in. Disney is also running a promotion which offers a years access for £49.99 – this ends on March 23 • YOU CAN SIGN UP HERE
YOU’LL NEED A GOOD WEB CONNECTION
Like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ is a streaming service which means all content is beamed to your telly via the web. Disney+ says that all broadband speeds over 5Mbps should be fine although if you want to watch content in 4K you will need something faster.
In fact, it’s recommended that you have speeds of at least 25Mbps if you want a stutter-free Ultra HD experience.

YOU’LL NEED A STREAMING DEVICE
Because Disney+ comes into homes via the internet you’ll need a device that can receive this digital signal. There’s a bunch of products that are compatible with Disney+ including Samsung’s smart TVs, PS4 consoles, the Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV Stick.
Here’s a full list of every device that works with Disney+.
Web Browsers (via streaming) • Android phones and tablets • Apple iPhones and iPads • Amazon Fire Tablet • Android TV Devices • LG WebOS Smart TVs • Roku TV • Samsung Tizen Smart TVs • Amazon Fire TV • Apple AirPlay • Apple TV (4th Generation and later) • Chromebook • Chromecast • Sony PlayStation 4 • Xbox One • Roku
YOU’LL NEED A 4K TV FOR THE BEST EXPERIENCE
Disney+ is offering a range of content in 4K resolution but you will, of course, need an Ultra HD TV to tune in.
If you have this kit in your living room already then there’s more good news as Disney isn’t charging a premium for this service.
As we mentioned earlier, the service costs £5.99 per month or £59.99 for the year. For that price, you’ll be able to stream in 4K and have a maximum of four people binging at once.
Conversely, Netflix prices its service from £5.99, too. However, this will only let you stream in standard definition and allow one person to do so at any time.
You’ll have to cough up £11.99 for Netflix’s Premium plan if you want the same benefits as Disney+.
