Driveclub PS4 servers will be closing down for good, with the end time on PSN fast approaching. Last March Sony revealed that Driveclub, Driveclub VR and Driveclib Bikes servers would be shutting down on the PS4’s PlayStation Network. The PSN server shutdown news was revealed a year in advance, giving PS4 fans plenty of time to enjoy Driveclub online before that functionality stopped.
And now the time is almost here when Driveclub servers on PS4 will shut down, with the final day to play Driveclub on PSN being Tuesday March 31.
After 11.59pm BST on that day Driveclub PS4 servers will cease to work.
However, while the online functionality of Driveclub will stop the single player and offline content for Driveclub, Driveclub VR and Driveclub Bikes will still work.
• Use your season pass on all single player and offline modes
• Continue to play all game (DC, DC VR and DC Bikes) and DLC single player functionality in offline mode
• Earn trophies in single player / offline mode
The news was revealed by Sony in March 2019, giving Driveclub fans a whole year to prepare for the server shutdown.
Here’s what the PS4 makers said in a post online: “Online servers for DRIVECLUB, DRIVECLUB VR and DRIVECLUB Bikes will shut down on 31st March 2020, 23:59 BST.
“All online features (including online multiplayer modes) will cease on that date.
“You will still be able to play and enjoy these games in single player offline modes.
“However, the games have significant amounts of online gameplay”.
Driveclub was one of the first big exclusives announced for the PS4, getting revealed at the console’s big February 2013 event.
However, a series of delays meant Driveclub didn’t end up launching on the PS4 until almost a year after the console’s release date.
Driveclub received a mixed reception at launch but a series of patches fine tuned the experience.
And now Driveclub is a great arcade-like racer which despite being almost six years old boasts great visuals.
Following the release of Driveclub, Sony shut down Evolution Studios – the makers of the PS4 exclusive – in 2016.
Subsequent patches for the PS4 game were handled by other Sony studios.
Last year Sony stopped selling the Driveclub games and all associated DLC on the PlayStation Store.
But physical copies of Driveclub can still be purchased with the game part of the PlayStation Hits range.
