One social media user claimed their miles per gallon had “gone down” since using the new fuel. Another even claimed a whole £30 petrol top-up lasted just one day as fears of fuel economy issues continue to be raised.
“Bloody rip [off].”
Twitter user R.H said: ”Is it my driving or this new diluted E10 fuel being consumed quicker?”
Ratt Guznini added: “Bro, does anyone else feel like fuel don’t last as long as it used to?
Another special media user replied: “Bro my car already had s*** MPG, and now I’m getting robbed even more.”
This was down to the lower energy density of ethanol compared to fossil petrol.
However, they warned the impact on drivers will vary based on “driving styles and refinements in fuel blending”.
The new E10 fuel was launched at forecourts back in September in a bid to reduce vehicle emissions.
The DfT has previously claimed the new fuel could reduce CO2 emissions by around 750,000 tonnes, the same as removing 350,000 vehicles from the road in one go.
