DVLA number plates SHOCK – The rude and X-rated registrations put on sale in the UK

Every year there are two sets of new number plate registrations introduced into the UK. They signify the age of a car and are identified by different number combinations after the first two characters. For example, in 2019 the two new number plate introductions will have either ’19 or ’69’ on them. Every year the DVLA will ban a number of registrations which are deemed to be too rude, explicit or contain offensive terms.

Any plate deemed to cause any offence will typically be removed before they go into circulation.

Certain combinations of letters are automatically banned every single year, for example, words such as SEX and ASS will be taken out of circulation.

Other four letter combinations such as B** UMS and FA** RTS are similarly removed out to help prevent any offence being made.

A DVLA spokesman said: “The vast majority of registration numbers are made available but the agency holds back any combinations that may cause offence, embarrassment or are in poor taste.

“Many people enjoy displaying a personalised registration number and there are over 50 million registrations available on our website, with almost endless possibilities of combinations to suit a person’s taste, interests, and budget.”

However, some plates that have gone on sale contain certain terms or phrases which could be deemed to be risqué, reports Wales Online.

What’s more, some of these registrations have been valued up to £499. Some of the registrations below include:

  • BJ69 HED
  • ME69 LOL
  • ME69 GAG
  • ME69 PSE
  • LV 69 JZZ
  • BG 69 WLY
  • SX 69 DNG

Regarding some of the ’69’ plates available for sale, a DVLA spokesman said: “The vast majority of registration numbers are made available for general issue and for sale, and the numbers in question were deemed suitable for release.”

Each year there are two meetings held by the DVLA which sees a team comb out any potentially offensive number plates.

Some examples of number plates that have been removed this year include OR19 SMS, BU19 GRY and DO19 POO.
