That is the opinion of former Arsenal and England midfielder Ray Parlour.
Dutch legend Van der Sar spent six years of his playing career at Manchester United, winning four Premier League titles and the Champions League.
He is currently the chief executive at Ajax, overseeing the club’s incredible run to the semi-final of the Champions League.
Ajax have beaten Real Madrid and Juventus in the knockout stages so far and will face Tottenham in the last four later this month.
Midfielder Frenkie de Jong has already agreed to join Barcelona in the summer for a fee of £65million.
Centre-back Matthijs de Ligt is linked with an exit from Ajax, with Barca also keen on the 19-year-old.
But Parlour reckons the arrival of Van der Sar as technical director at United could persuade some of Ajax’s stars to move to Manchester.
“Well Van der Sar was mentioned,” Parlour said on Sky Sports.
“He knows exactly how Manchester United runs and what sort of players they need. What a job he’s done.
“I’m sure they’ll be looking at a few Ajax players maybe.
“Sometimes, when you bring in people like Van der Sar, who’s got experience, the young players at Ajax might look up to Van der Sar.
“That could be a massive plus point if you did get someone like that.
“They know they can trust him, they know what he’s going to say to them about what the club’s all about, and maybe that’s where they go.
“That might be the angle they go for.”
Former Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell admits United need a person like Van der Sar to be in charge of new signings.
“Now it’s about bringing that alignment together,” Sidwell said.
“It’s not just about players and coaches and the manager. It’s all the way through to the very, very top.
“It has to be an alignment down the middle, they’re talking about maybe even a technical director going in there now.”
