One of the best ways of cutting your monthly smartphone bill is to switch over to SIM-only plan. As long as you are happy to keep your current device these plans offer some very good value for money and there’s one new deal which is taking the fight to the big networks such EE, Vodafone and Three.
SMARTY is currently offering customers the chance to grab a SIM with 100GB of monthly data for just £15 per month.
This plan also includes unlimited calls and texts and that’s not the only good thing about this plan. Although the £15 price lasts for a whole 12 months, customers who sign up can cancel at any time and there’s no long-term contract to sign.
That means you can join today but then switch things off without fear of paying any penalties.
100GB should easily be enough for most people’s needs and unless you stream movies all day and night it’s unlikely you’ll hit your allowance.
As a quick comparison, EE is currently offering a 50GB SIM which costs £10 per month for the initial three months of the 18-month contract. Things then jump to £20 per month.
If you want more data then there’s also 100GB of data for just £12.50 per month for the first three months with the price increasing to £25 for the remaining 15 months.
Unlike SMARTY, you will be tied to the full term once you sign up with EE so it’s important to make sure you are happy with the offer before hitting the buy button.
Three Mobile is also offering a discount for the first few months of the contract.
The popular network has been giving customers the chance to get a discounted rate for a while with the network currently offering unlimited data for £11 per month. This then jumps to £22 after the first six months is up.
If Vodafone is your network of choice you’ll find half-price contracts for the first six months with prices starting from £11 – these are based on customers signing up to a 24-month deal.
It’s worth noting that SMARTY is actually powered by the Three network which means you should get access to 3G and 4G speeds but 5G is not included so don’t expect superfast downloads if you join this deal.
News of these deals come as research has revealed that locked-down Britons are sitting on 165 million gigabytes of unused mobile data worth a staggering £165 million.
According to new data from Uswitch.com consumers are using a fraction of the data that they would usually, as they rely on their household Wi-Fi to stay connected.
More than a third of consumers want their unused data to be rolled over to the following month, while one in five would like a refund on any unused data.
A generous one in ten would like to give their unused data to essential workers, and 8% want a monetary equivalent to be donated to charity.
Speaking about the research Ru Bhihka, mobiles expert at Uswitch.com, said: “Locked-down consumers are sitting on a mountain of unused mobile data worth a staggering £165 million.
“Many consumers would like to see this data rolled over to when they have more use for it, and it’s great to see some providers like Sky Mobile already doing that.
“If you are unsure about how much data you need, it’s worth checking to see how much you are currently using each month and if it is more than you require.”
