Elvis Presley’s wife Priscilla revealed he would dress her in ‘mature’ sexy looks as teen
Elvis Presley met Priscilla Presley when she was just 14-years-old and he was 24. A year later, she moved to Memphis with him and they dated until 1967 when they married. While Priscilla insists they never had sex, saying the King wanted the woman he would marry to remain a virgin until then, he would control the way she looked and choose racy outfits for her.
In an interview with Barbara Walters in 1985, eight years after Elvis died, Priscilla recalled how he would select how her makeup, clothes and hair looked.
“I was definitely under a spell of what I thought was love and I have to take responsibility for that as well,” she reflected.
“I knew nothing else. I had nothing else.
“I had no experience, not even in life but with other people,” she added.
The interviewer noted how Elvis wanted her to remain “virginal and pure” until they married but yet chose to have her dressed in flashy sequins, low-cut tops and dresses with slits up the side.
Addressing why the rock ’n’ roll star did this, Priscilla mused: “I think maybe it was his way of showing sophistication, maybe making me appear older.
“I don’t know,” she admitted, laughing: “There’s some kind of appeal that men like with a trashy kind of look.”
“That’s what turned him on?” the interviewer asked, at which point the actress nodded: “Mhmm.”
Priscilla maintains she and Elvis didn’t have sex until they were married eight years after they met.
Nine months after their wedding, she gave birth to their daughter Lisa Marie Presley.
Following Lisa Marie’s birth, however, their relationship started to decline, with Elvis losing interest in Priscilla sexually.
In the 1985 interview, his ex-wife explained: “Elvis had a hard time dealing with mother and the little girl that I was to him.
“I didn’t know it then but that’s how I finally realised in later years he was a father to me; he was my mentor. To show any kind of vulnerability or insecurity to me was not macho.
“Our communication was horrible, it was terrible,” she added.
While Elvis was still seeing other women on the side, Priscilla soon turned her attention elsewhere.
She embarked on affair with her karate teacher Mike Stone and, in 1972, told Elvis she’d had enough and left him to move in with her new beau.
Their divorce was finalised the following year but Priscilla and Elvis stayed close up until his death in 1977.
