Eurovision 2020 winner: Who won Eurovision Come Together?

Eurovision fans were devastated when the 2020 competition was cancelled following the outbreak of pandemic coronavirus COVID-19. However, in its place the BBC has run a night of Eurovision celebrations, including a special competition called Eurovision Come Together. Here’s everything you need to know about the winner of the show.

Who won Eurovision 2020?

The 2020 Eurovision Song Contest was cancelled back on March 18 after COVID-19 caused many European countries to go on lockdown to prevent the spread of the virus.

The show was supposed to air tonight (May 16) across Europe with the 2020 acts taking to the stage.

However, in place of the usual competition, the BBC aired a one-off special contest called Eurovision Come Together.

The special programme featured performances from 19 acts before viewers at home were invited to vote for their favourites.

However, the UK acts to make it into the shortlist were Katrina and The Waves, Bucks Fizz and Gina G.

The acts were whittled down by a panel of experts and celebrity fans to the 19 performances.

These panelists were all invited to select their top 10 favourite acts since the competition started.

They were told to choose songs which had become modern classics since they were performed on the competition.

According to the BBC, the criteria was: “Eurovision songs that you believe are modern day classics or songs that have stood the test of time.

“Please consider the overall package, i.e. the live performance, the staging, and the song.”

The show was part of an evening of Eurovision entertainment put together by the BBC and the competition organisers.

This included another show called Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light, which invited all of the 2020 contestants to perform.

The 41 acts from around Europe were asked to perform the songs they would have sung in the 2020 competition.

However, unlike the usual competition, this was non-competitive so there was no official voting.

Eurovision Come Together is available to stream on BBC iPlayer now.
