First Samsung and Sony, now more TVs get this blockbuster upgrade

Samsung, Sony and LG have already announced support for the Disney+ streaming service on their Smart TV homescreens – saving viewers from buying a standalone box, like Apple TV or Chromecast. And now Philips has revealed that it will join the streaming revolution as well.

The tech firm has announced owners of its latest televisions can access the thousands of shows, movies, and documentaries on Disney+ using the app that has now surfaced on their Philips Smart TV homescreen. Anyone with a 2020 Android TV-powered model can now add the Disney+ app to their TVs with owners then able to watch movies from the likes of Star Wars, Pixar, Disney and Marvel for a small monthly fee.

In fact, you’ll find over 500 blockbuster films as part of the subscription.

There’s also a bunch of shows, cartoons and exclusive content including Star Wars: The Mandalorian, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, and The World according to Jeff Goldblum plus there’s access to all of the Simpsons series and content from National Geographic.

Along with offering Disney+, there’s also another bonus for Philips owners as it this service also works with the clever Ambilight technology that’s built into some of these sets.

This immersive light system changes colour depending on what is on the screen giving viewers a feeling that they are part of the action. The Disney+ app is available now on Philips TVs in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, France, the UK and Ireland. The service has been already available and very successful in the Netherlands since autumn 2019.

As a quick reminder, Disney+ costs £5.99 per month or £59.99 for the year which makes this option slightly cheaper. There’s also the option to sign up to a 7-day free trial which allows you to check out what’s on without having to pay anything upfront. YOU CAN SIGN UP FOR FREE HERE

And it’s worth remembering that you could be eligible for a free subscription to Disney+ too.

Samsung was the first to announce its Disney+ compatibility with LG and Sony following soon after.

“With the launch of Disney+, our consumers can anticipate amazing levels of colour and brightness in 4K HDR with iconic stories of imagination and inspiration,” said Guy Kinnell, Vice President, TV and AV Samsung Electronics UK Ltd.

“Samsung’s Smart TVs will again take another leap in offering the highest quality entertainment experiences to our consumers supported by the easiest and most consumer friendly Smart TV platform whilst being at the forefront of a radical shift in media consumption.”
