Epic Games has more time on its hands having pushed back the release of Fortnite Season 3 and now gamers are wondering if an old map event could be coming soon. So far, there have been little official news on such an event happening directly from Epic Games directly. But there have been a few hints that something could happen before the start of Fortnite Season 3.
IS THE OLD FORTNITE MAP COMING BACK?
For now, a new Fortnite event has not been confirmed by Epic Games and would follow directly the recent Travis Scott concert.
But with so much free time before Fortnite Season 3 begins, there’s a good chance something new is happening in the coming weeks.
Fans are pointing out a new Easter egg which was spotted during the Travis Scott earlier this week.
This included the crystal butterfly appearing during the concert, a sign from the old map which has now been replaced.
It’s a well-known icon from Chapter 1, alongside others like the Cube and asteroid, and would certainly feed the current nostalgia for the old map.
But while the crystal butterfly could signify something is coming, it probably does not include a return to the old map.
While Fortnite Battle Royale may not return to the old map something could be cooking before Fortnite Season 3.
There’s now over a month for Epic Games to fill in Fortnite Battle Royale, so there’s plenty to look out for in the coming weeks.
The new release date has been set for early June, with Epic Games confirming earlier this month: “Hey all, we’re extending Chapter 2 – Season 2 of Fortnite beyond the original April 30 date. Our plan is to launch Chapter 2 – Season 3 on June 4.
“Before then, there’s lots of content coming in the current Season. We have multiple game updates on the way that will deliver fresh gameplay, new Challenges, bonus XP, and a couple more surprises up our sleeve!
“For continued updates on the new Fortnite Season and other plans, we’ll keep you up to speed here and on our social channels.”
One event we do know that is kicking off in May is The FNCS Invitational, which offer a large prize pot for those taking part.
On May 2, Fortnite will be kicking off an Open Qualifier for Champion ranked players, with an additional 100 players in each region having the opportunity to earn an invite to the FNCS Invitational.
According to Epic Games, this will give you the chance to play against some of the biggest names in Competitive Fortnite and a share of the $2,000,000 prize pool.
The event will be a Solo competition, use a new scoring format, and will feature its own prizing each week.
A message from Epic Games adds: “On the heels of crowning this season’s FNCS Champions, we’re excited to announce our next round of competition is right around the corner: The FNCS Invitational.
“Beginning Saturday, May 9, the FNCS Invitational will take place over the following three weekends.”
