Hair loss can be a natural part of the ageing process, and most of the time, it’s nothing to worry about. We can even lose up to 100 hairs on our bodies every day, without even noticing. But you could prolong the life of your locks by regularly applying castor oil to your scalp, it’s been revealed.
Castor oil is most commonly used as a laxative, but it has a number of other health benefits, according to medical website Healthline.
It’s natural antiviral properties meant that it was a common treatment for skin conditions.
The oil has been claimed to boost hair growth, as well as protect against dry scalp.
Some scientists have also revealed that castor oil can stimulate hair growth by five times.
Even still, if you decide to use castor oil on your hair to protect against alopecia, the best way to apply the treatment is with a massage.
Using rubber gloves, apply the oil directly to your scalp.
Massage your head, using a comb to make sure the oil covers the scalp. You don’t need to completely soak your hair, but just make sure it’s completely covered.
Finally, put a shower cap on your head, and make sure all of your hair is tucked inside.
Losing your hair isn’t necessarily something to be worried about.
But, on rare occasions, it could be a tell-tale sign of another medical condition.
You should speak to a doctor if you suddenly start losing your hair, or if you develop bald patches.
There are other treatments for hair loss – including transplants – but they aren’t available on the NHS, and you’ll need to pay for them.
