Half-Life Alyx release time to be followed by big Valve game news
Valve’s release schedule has been pretty limited over the past few years but things are changing a little in 2020. The Half-Life Alyx release time has been set for today but the company has also confirmed that they have more gaming news to share in 2020. This new project is different from others as it will offer a return to the Half-Life universe, while also being a massive new VR title. Alyx is a prequel to Half Life 2 and is set before the return of Gordon Freeman, instead focusing on Alyx Vance, who is taking the fight to the Combine.
“Valve’s return to the Half-Life universe that started it all was built from the ground up for virtual reality. VR was built to enable the gameplay that sits at the heart of Half-Life,” Valve confirms in a new message.
“Immerse yourself in deep environmental interactions, puzzle solving, world exploration, and visceral combat.
“Learn to aim around a broken wall and under a Barnacle to make an impossible shot. Rummage through shelves to find a healing syringe and some shotgun shells.
“Manipulate tools to hack alien interfaces. Toss a bottle through a window to distract an enemy. Rip a Headcrab off your face and throw it out the window.”
As revealed earlier this year by Valve, the Half-Life Alyx release date has been set for March 23, 2020.
And the launch time has also been confirmed for later today on the Steam Digital Storefront.
The Half Life Alyx release time on Steam has been set for 5pm GMT in the UK, and at around 10am PT in the United States.
Half Life Alyx will support all PC-compatible VR headsets such as Valve Index, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.
WHAT’S COMING NEXT FROM VALVE?
Valve has also confirmed that they have plans in motion for after the launch of Half-Life Alyx in March 2020.
Another game that Valve released recently was Artifact, a title that failed to pick up in popularity following its launch, facing mixed reviews.
However, following reports of it getting a major reboot, Valve has confirmed that they are working on big Artifact news for after Alyx.
“First off, we wanted to say thanks for all of your tweets, emails and posts. The continued interest in Artifact has been encouraging, and we sincerely appreciate all of the feedback,” a message from Valve explains.
“You might notice some changes soon – we are starting tests on our systems and infrastructure. This shouldn’t impact live Artifact but we wanted to give you a heads up.
“Expect more news after the launch of Half-Life: Alyx!”
Valve has also confirmed that Half-Life: Alyx will have a number of settings dedicated to improving the experience of watching the game being played on a TV or monitor during launch day.
These will be available in the game’s menu under Settings > Spectator, and will include being able to choose whether to enable features like the spectator-specific HUD.
