Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bid to buy National League club Wrexham

Wrexham fans have voted to allow Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to take over the club. The duo were given the green light following a special general meeting of the Wrexham Supporters Trust on Tuesday.

Reynolds is best known for his role in numerous blockbusters such as the Deadpool movies.

McElhenney is one of the directors of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and has a net worth of around £39million.

A club statement read: “The Wrexham Supporters Trust Board would like to thank all members who took part in the Special General Meeting yesterday (Tuesday September 22) and took the time to vote.

“As confirmed this morning, 97.5% of voters (1,223 members) voted in favour of the Resolution.

“As a result, talks with the proposed bidders will now continue and we are in a position to confirm the two people interested in investing in Wrexham AFC.

Johnson added: “We will spare no effort in developing vaccines, treatments, new forms of mass-testing but unless we palpably make progress we should assume that the restrictions that I have announced will remain in place for perhaps six months.

“For the time being, this virus is a fact of our lives and I must tell the house and the country that our fight against it will continue.

“I want to stress that this is by no means a return to the full lockdown of March. We’re not issuing a general instruction to stay at home.

“We will ensure that schools, colleges, universities stay open because nothing is more important than the education, health and well-being of our young people.

“We will ensure businesses can stay open in a COVID-compliant way. However we must take action to suppress the disease.”
