The clinical trials included a large database of over 24,000 people.
The trials were taking place all around the world, including in the UK, Brazil and South Africa.
The vaccine can be stored at ‘fridge temperature’, and can be easily administered in current healthcare settings, said the university.
“These findings show that we have an effective vaccine that will save many lives,” said Professor Andrew Pollard, the chief investigator of the Oxford Vaccine Trial.
