James Bond 26 producer being ‘revved up’ to give Danny Boyle’s ‘CRAZY idea’ another chance

With No Time To Die’s move to November, this marks the fourth release date this James Bond movie has had. The original was last October when Danny Boyle was still attached to direct. However, the filmmaker and his Trainspotting screenwriter John Hodge left Bond 25 over “creative differences”.

In the end, 007 producers Barbara Broccoli and Micheal G Wilson went back to regular Bond screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade to work on the story they shelved for Boyle in the first place.

The script that has evolved into what is now Cary Fukunaga’s No Time To Die.

One that was edited by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and the new director himself.

But now the new Bond film’s production designer Mark Tildesley has revealed Boyle may get to direct a 007 movie in the future after all.

The 63-year-old said: “Well for me it was slightly different to a lot of people because I grew up reading the books.

“In the way that people talk about Star Wars – I didn’t get that with Star Wars, I was a punk by then, so I didn’t have that – but if you can imagine that same kind of formative fanaticism, that you get from people talking about Star Wars, I had that for the Bond novels by Ian Fleming.

“They were a huge part of my early teenage years. The key, really. I read them continually, over and over again.

“You’ll laugh, but at the time they were quite risqué.”

Boyle added: “So it was the books, rather than the movies – although I’ve seen all the movies thought they were great and enjoyed them – but it wasn’t the movies that made me fall in love with Bond.

“It was always the books for me and so when we were all talking together about what we were going to do, I was very clear that that was very much my take on it.”

With a reboot coming in Bond 26, perhaps 007 producers will be more willing to try out Boyle’s unique approach. After all, Casino Royale was a far cry from Die Another Day.

No Time To Die is released in UK cinemas on November 12, 2020.
