Jet2 has announced all flights to Spain have been cancelled due to growing coronavirus fears. This includes flights heading to mainland Spain and the Balearic and Canary Islands. The airline has announced the cancellation as a precaution amid health and safety concerns.
This includes flights to mainline Spain, the Balearic and Canary Islands, including Ibiza, Majorca and Gran Canaria.
Flights heading to Lanzarote, Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Minorca are also affected.
The airline confirmed the flight cancellations following the closure of bars, restaurants and shops across Spain.
A Jet2 spokesperson said: “In response to local measures introduced throughout Spain to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including the closure of bars, restaurants, shops, and activities including any water sports, we have taken the decision to cancel all flights to Mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands with immediate effect.
“We know these local measures will have a significant impact on our customers’ holidays, which is why we have taken this decision.
“We are contacting our customers who are currently in these destinations, and who are due to travel, to advise them of their options, so we urge customers not to call us.
“This is a fast-moving and complex situation and we are reviewing our programme as a matter of urgency, so that we can fly customers back to the UK.
“The health and safety of our customers is our number one priority, and we would like to thank our customers for their understanding.”
Anyone who is due to travel to Spain imminently with Jet2 will be affected by the cancellations.
The airline advised passengers not to contact them about upcoming flights.
Instead, Jet2 has said it will be in touch with those who are due to travel to advise them of their options.
Yesterday, Jet2 updated passengers on news regarding Cyprus holiday and confirmed they would not be flying customers to Paphos and Larnaca.
They wrote: “The Cypriot authorities have announced several measures aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19.
“As a result of these measures, we will not be flying any customers to Cyprus (Paphos and Larnaca) with immediate effect.
“We will be flying customers back to the UK via our programme of scheduled flights which will continue to operate until Friday 20th March (inclusive). This is a fast-moving and complex situation, and we will review further options as it evolves. We are contacting our customers who are currently in Cyprus, and who are due to travel to Cyprus, to advise them of their options.
“We would like to thank our customers for their understanding. The health and safety of our customers is always our number one priority.”
