Kate and William tour branded ‘PR stunt’ by Twitter users – ‘Not what we need right now!’

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will board the royal train today as they commence their three-day tour of Britain. The royal couple will make 10 stops in England, Scotland and Wales as they meet with key workers and outstanding individuals, to give their thanks for their hard work during the coronavirus crisis. But social media users have hit out at the move, suggesting Kate and William could thank the public in other ways.

One person wrote: “Is Zoom not enough?

“Wouldn’t paying for key worker treats be more of a morale boost?

“Sounds more to me like royals wanting a jolly train ride before Christmas (to be fair, I’d love one!).”

Dozens of other Twitter users accused the Cambridge’s of carrying out a “PR stunt”.

One user said: “A royal tour is not what we need at this time.

“Prince William and Kate are absolutely deluded.

“You can other ways to thank our front line staff rather than encouraging people to gather.

“This is nothing more than a PR stunt to see how popular they are.”

“They should find a more sensible way to use their platform and show support.

“A ‘royal train tour’ what an ego Prince William and Kate have.”

But some royal fans praised the couple for undertaking the tour, and said it is bound to raise morale across the country.

One person wrote: “William and Kate plan train tour to thank key workers. How wonderful.

“As someone who knows how hard my colleagues have worked in the #NHS and in other vital services, both locally and nationally, this will be very welcomed.”

Another user said: “Great to hear some positive news for a change.

“Pleased to hear that the Queen has asked William and Kate to tour the country and thank the people who have done so much for us all this year.

“Much needed morale boosting and hopefully unification away from politics.”
