London fire: Huge blaze erupts in east London – emergency services on scene

Firefighters are battling the blaze with witnesses on Twitter saying plumes of smoke was coming out of the building on the busy street. The fire is believed to have started around 10pm in near Leytonstone Road, Maryland, Newham, in London. Eyewitness Dan Madison wrote on Twitter: “There’s a fire near Maryland Station, Maryland, Newham, London. Fire engines and police in attendance and thick smoke pouring out of building.”

London Fire Brigade tweeted: “Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters have been called to a fire on Leytonstone Road in #Stratford More information to follow.”

The TfL website hasw stated that “Maryland Rail Station has reported access issues”.

But it doesn’t add if the station is affected by the fire.

Road closures have also been put in place, as traffic management system Inrix has said: “A11 Leytonstone Road Southbound blocked due to building fire from Forest Lane to Windmill Lane.”
