The 22-year-old victim was struck in the neck with a glass during the early hours of this morning in the Bananas de Magaluf nightclub in the popular nightlife area of Punta Ballena. Emergency services rushed to the scene and found the woman in a critical condition due to the large amount of blood she had lost. Medics stopped the bleeding before transferring the victim to the Intensive Care Unit of Hospital Son Espases.
Shortly afterwards, Spanish newspaper Ultima Hora, citing official sources, reported her life was not in danger.
Police have launched a full investigation.
A 19-year-old female has been arrested, also understood to be British, has been arrested.
She is due to be questioned by police today before being handed over to a judge, who will decide whether to release her on bail or remand her in custody.
The attack took place at around 1am following in the nightclub following an argument.
The woman was on holiday on the popular Spanish island as it begins it summer peak season.
One source said: “The girl who was injured suffered a cut to her throat. She was rushed to intensive care and had an emergency op. She’s still very serious but we’re hearing the operation has been successful and saved her life.
“The alleged attacker is in police custody.”
