Lionel Messi retirement claim
Lionel Messi has another “seven very good years” left in the tank as former Barcelona midfielder Xavi tips the attacker to remain at the Nou Camp until he is 39 years old.
Messi has won almost everything there is to win in football since moving to Barcelona from Newell’s Old Boys in 2010.
The 32-year-old has six Ballon d’Or’s to his name – one more than Cristiano Ronaldo – but he has never won the World Cup with Argentina.
Therefore Xavi thinks that will serve as motivation and Messi has been tipped to represent his country at the next event in 2022 in Qatar.
“He’s still got five or seven very good years left in him,” Xavi said of Messi during an Instagram chat with Samuel Eto’o.
“He takes good care of himself and he can keep playing until he’s 37, 38 or 39. He’ll play at the Qatar World Cup, I’m sure.”
Man Utd handed Jadon Sancho boost
Manchester United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Jadon Sancho with Borussia Dortmund closing in on his replacement.
TodoFichajes say Dortmund have entered negotiations to sign Werder Bremen star Milot Rashica.
The Bundesliga side are busy searching for a replacement for Sancho, who is expected to leave this summer with Manchester United the favourites to secure his services.
Rashica, who has been linked with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, has scored 23 goals and provided 11 assists in 64 appearances for Werder Bremen.
The 23-year-old Kosovo international is valued at £30million.
Thomas Partey to Arsenal development
Thomas Partey has told close friends he’s keen to join Arsenal this summer.
The Atletico Madrid midfielder is a top target for Mikel Arteta.
And the Telegraph say Partey has made it clear he wants to join the Gunners.
Partey is hoping Atletico and Arsenal can agree a deal this summer.
The 26-year-old has told close pals of his desire to prove himself in the Premier League.
Liverpool lead race for striker
Liverpool are leading the race to sign RB Leipzig star Timo Werner, however, the transfer could be in doubt due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The forward has talked up a move to Anfield, with the Germany international hailing the Reds and his countryman Jurgen Klopp.
And according to The Independent, Liverpool are in pole position to sign Werner.
They say the German, 24, will be available for around £50m due to a release clause in his contract.
However, it’s claimed the transfer could be in doubt due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Football has been suspended due to the deadly virus, with the Premier League aiming to return in June.
However, the loss of income in recent weeks could see clubs refusing to spend big in the summer transfer window.
Chelsea identify ideal signing
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has identified his “ideal signing” ahead of the next transfer window.
The Blues are eager to continue strengthening their squad to build on the progress made in Lampard’s maiden campaign in the Stamford Bridge dugout.
Bleacher Report say the Blues see Leicester’s Ben Chilwell as their ideal signing this summer.
Leicester are likely to play hardball over Chilwell, who came through the ranks at the King Power Stadium.
The 23-year-old is under contract until the summer of 2024 and is reportedly valued by the Foxes at £60million.
