Harry Maguire has reportedly sustained a small muscle tear, which is the reason he has been left at home by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the trip to PSG. The Manchester United skipper has stayed in England with teammate Edinson Cavani as the Red Devils prepare to get their European campaign up and running in France.
Maguire played the full game against Newcastle on Saturday night and scored in the 4-1 victory at St James’ Park.
There had been some doubts over whether he’d play following his red card for England against Denmark last week.
The Three Lions international has endured a difficult start to the season following his arrest in Mykonos in August.
Maguire issued the perfect response to his critics by leading United to an important Premier League victory ahead of the trip to PSG.
“Harry scored and led by example. He showed good character, I am happy for him. He had a couple of difficult weeks since he last played for us.
Maguire appeared to be unaware of any potential injury after the win over Newcastle and claimed the focus would switch to PSG on Tuesday: “We showed great character under pressure. We have had a lot of criticism.
“We now have a tough run with PSG in the champions league but maybe this can help kick us on.
“We expect to do big things this year, it is just disappointing to start like we have.”
The former Leicester man was keen to keep the team’s feet on the ground following the rout and made it clear that United to build on the performance.
“I wouldn’t say we have answered them [the critics],” he said, when asked if United have answered their critics.
“It’s funny, three games into the season and it seems like a big crisis. Won two lost two. There is a long way to go, we have to improve.
“When you play for this club and get beat at home, we ask questions. We work hard in training, it is a great group and we knew we had to bounce back.”
Axel Tuanzebe could be in line for a start at the Parc des Princes in the absence of Maguire.
