The striker shortlist

Manchester United drew up a list of potential striker candidates in January.

According to the Evening Standard, United’s recruitment department had FIVE targets on their shortlist to bolster Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attacking options.

At the top of that list was Erling Haaland, who shattered supporters’ hopes when opting for Borussia Dortmund instead.

Other names on the list included Lyon’s Moussa Dembele, Germany international Timo Werner, Tottenham talisman Harry Kane and Wolves centre-forward Raul Jimenez.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Liverpool

Liverpool have been backed to sign Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang by Gunners hero Paul Merson.

The Arsenal forward could leave the Emirates this summer if the Gunners choose to cash in on the Gabon international with Manchester United and Barcelona known to be interested.

Despite interest from both clubs, Sky Sports pundit Merson reckons Aubameyang would fit in perfectly at Liverpool.

“Everyone knows about Aubameyang’s contract situation but there aren’t too many clubs in England looking to fill that position,” he told Sky Sports. “I think if you were Liverpool you would have a look and Jurgen Klopp knows him very well from their time together at Borussia Dortmund, but it does worry me that Klopp hasn’t gone in for him. He would surely know him better than anyone.

“Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino work really well together as a three, but you do need someone who can bang in 25 goals without a fuss.”

David Alaba offered

Chelsea will have to fight off La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid in their pursuit of long-term transfer target David Alaba.

The Blues are on the hunt for a new left-back but will have a hard task signing up the Bayern Munich ace due to new interest from Spain, according to reports.

Chelsea had been favourites to snap up the Austrian in January, but Barcelona and Real Madrid have reportedly now joined the race for the 27-year-old’s signature.

SportBILD claim La Liga’s top two pose a serious threat to the Blues’ transfer plans and would have no qualms about splashing out £60million on the experienced defender.

Dani Olmo: I had Premier League offers

Dani Olmo rejected proposals from Barcelona and Premier League clubs before completing a move to RB Leipzig.

The 21-year-old Spain international, who was part of Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy, was linked with Barca, Real Madrid and Manchester United in January – but opted to leave Dinamo Zagreb for RB Leipzig in a deal worth £21million.

“I had several offers, not only from Spain, but also from Italy and England,” Olmo told Mundo Deportivo. “But RB Leipzig was the team that bet the most.

“The project they offered me was not given to me by any other team. This is how I felt and I was determined that it was the best option. I am clear about the path I want to travel and what I have to do to achieve it.”

Wanted: Boubakary Soumare

Boubakary Soumare has three European heavyweights looking to secure his signature.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence for Lille in the last 18 months with Barcelona, Liverpool and Real Madrid credited with interest.

Premier League Newcastle were close to breaking their record transfer fee on Soumare in January, but the midfielder opted to stay with Lille.

Now, Spanish publication Sport claim the France Under-21 international is back on the radar of top clubs with Liverpool having held talks with his representatives.

Neymar approves

Neymar has given the thumbs up to re-joining Barcelona.

The Brazilian superstar scored 105 goals in 186 appearances during his four-season spell at the Nou Camp before leaving in a world-record deal to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.

The Spanish champions failed with several attempts to re-sign the 28-year-old last summer but that hasn’t deterred them.

Spanish outlet Sport claim Neymar has told Barcelona representatives that he wants to return this summer and will pile the pressure on PSG executives to let him leave.

It’s believed £166million, to be paid in cash, would be enough for PSG to green-light his departure and he would become the second highest paid player in the squad behind Lionel Messi.

Diego Godin to Manchester United

Manchester United are considering a move for Inter Milan defender Diego Godin.

The Red Devils tried and failed with several offers to sign the Uruguayan international during his days at Atletico Madrid.

But the 34-year-old decided to join Antonio Conte at the San Siro instead on a three-year deal.

The veteran centre-back has been used sparingly by Inter this campaign – making 16 of a possible 25 Serie A appearances and often being withdrawn before the 90-minute mark.

Now, Italian publication Corriere Dello Sport claim Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are interested in bringing him to Old Trafford.

Jadon Sancho to Chelsea

Chelsea won’t be put off by Borussia Dortmund’s valuation of Jadon Sancho as they prepare to launch a bid to sign the English youngster during the summer transfer window, according to the Evening Standard.

Manchester United and Liverpool were both heavily linked with the forward before the January transfer window, but neither made a move.

Instead, he stayed at Dortmund, and has continued to impress – winning the Bundesliga’s Player of the Month award for January.

Dortmund will apparently ask for £120m for the winger, which would smash Chelsea’s club-record transfer fee paid for a player.

That figure currently stands at the £72m they paid for goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga – who has been tipped to leave Stamford Bridge during the summer.

Thomas Lemar exit

Manchester United are keen to sign Atletico Madrid outcast Thomas Lemar this summer for two reasons, according to ESPN.

The Red Devils are said to be keen on launching a bid for the Frenchman during the summer transfer window.

This season, he has started just nine La Liga games, and has failed to score or register an assist in any game in all competitions.

According to ESPN, United like the look of Lemar for two reasons – his creativity and the fact he is left-footed.

Moussa Dembele top priority

Chelsea are set to focus their efforts on the pursuit of Moussa Dembele this summer, according to reports.

The Blues are on the hunt for a striker and manager Frank Lampard has supposedly identified the Lyon frontman as his first choice.

The Evening Standard claim Dembele is the Blues’ preferred target ahead of RB Leipzig ace Timo Werner.

The French striker is seen as an upgrade on both Giroud and Batshuayi, while the 23-year-old will provide competition with Abraham for a starting spot.

Chelsea reportedly had a £34million bid for Dembele rejected in January and Lyon subsequently released a statement reiterating their stance.

Nemanja Matic extension

Manchester United have entered talks with Nemanja Matic over a fresh two-year contract, The Sun claim.

The 13-time Premier League champions have already triggered their one-year extension option in the Serbian’s current deal that was set to expire in June.

Back in January, Matic was widely expected to leave Manchester United having fallen down Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s pecking order at Old Trafford.

Matic has helped United keep 14 clean sheets from their last 20 matches across all competitions while also helping the Red Devils embark on a 11-game unbeaten run.
