Met Office weather warnings: New alerts as up to FIVE inches of rain to batter Britain

Across the UK generally, the Met Office has said the next five days will be breezy, but mostly sunny and bright.

On Sunday, the weather will be dry with plenty of sunshine for most, but the far north of Scotland will be cloudier at times.

It will be breezy and feel cold in the wind, especially in the south and east.

On Sunday night, the weather will be dry and largely clear with widespread developing overnight.

Clouds will increase in far northwest Scotland with outbreaks of rain likely by dawn, with strong winds developing.

On Monday, the weather forecast predicts dry and bright weather with plenty of sunshine, but turning hazy in the north and west.

There will be wet and windy conditions in the far northwest of Scotland with coastal gales.

From Tuesday to Thursday many places dry with sunshine after frosty nights and there will be persistent heavy rain in northwest Scotland becoming lighter and more patchy as it clears southeastwards into England and Wales by Thursday.
