Michelle Obama’s horrific on-air blunder during Oprah Winfrey interview laid bare

Mrs Obama remains a hugely popular and influential figure in the US after her husband Barack’s eight-year tenure as President. The two are still widely regarded as a “power couple” as they work on numerous projects and step into active political debate. Just yesterday, Mr Obama mocked incumbent US President Donald Trump for walking out of a 60 Minute interview.

Speaking at a drive-in rally in Miami, he said: “It’s a good idea if you’re running for re-election to say, here’s what I want to accomplish.

“What did Trump say? He got mad and walked out of the interview. The questions were too tough. Too tough?

“Miami, listen, if he can’t answer a question like, what would you like to do in your second term, then it’s our job to make sure he doesn’t get a second term.”

It came after Mrs Obama also condemned Mr Trump, describing him as “not up to the job”.

The former First Lady said the Trump presidency was accompanied by “a constant drumbeat of fear, division and chaos that’s threatening to spiral out of control”.

However, she has not always been so self-assured in front of the camera.

Unearthed reports from October 2019 reveal how she had a mind-blank while in conversation with iconic chat show host, Oprah Winfrey.

During the interview, Mrs Obama completely forgot the age of her children.

Mrs Obama replied: “Thank you for that.

“You know I won’t hear the end of that.

“They’ll be like ‘mum doesn’t even know how old we were.’”

The audience erupted into fits of laughter as Mrs Obama beamed.

Before Mr Biden was officially announced as the Democrat runner, a bombshell poll even saw Mrs Obama take a lead as the US’ favourite person to go against Mr Trump.

The poll, compiled 12 months ago by Axios/Survey Monkey, had her in a commanding 13-point lead over Mr Trump in a hypothetical election.

However, she reflected on the clamour for her to run by confirming she wouldn’t take on the role.

Speaking on the Conan O’Brien podcast, Mrs Obama said: “What Barack and I talk about, that we do miss, is the loss of anonymity.

“And that’s something that most people don’t understand, how valuable anonymity is. Being able to blend into your environment, and not be the centre of it, but just to observe it… and because I love people so much, I love casual conversations with people.”

She added: “While I loved my time in the car alone with Chipotle, I love what you learn standing in a grocery store line and overhearing someone’s conversation.

“You know, watching their interactions with their loved one. Not being the watchee, but watching, and taking that in and understanding life and the observations that come.

“Most of your interaction with your partner is about what you saw, what you experienced over the course of the day.

“For Barack and I, that’s still very limited because we’re not able to be exposed in an anonymous way in the world.”
