Anthony Davis and Kevin Durant to Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers have big plans for the future and reports linking them with signing both Anthony Davis and Kevin Durant are very much real.
At least that’s according to Get More Sports’ Chris Sheridan.
LeBron James joined the Lakers this past offseason to fast-track the Lakers’ hopes of building a title-challenging team.
It has been five years since the Lakers even competed in a playoff series, but with enough cap space to sign a max-salary player next summer such as Durant, there is hope in Los Angeles that they will soon be back challenging for championships.
But while Durant remains their top target in free agency, the Lakers are also banking on putting together a trade for Davis.
The 25-year-old can be offered a max contract extension by the New Orleans Pelicans next summer, but if he refuses to sign it in favour of forcing through a trade then the Lakers could pounce.
It was reported earlier this month even that Davis may look at trying to force a move this season before the trade deadline if the Pelicans’ season derails.
Two teams moving for Bradley Beal
The Lakers are not considering making a trade for Bradley Beal, but there are two teams considering making a move.
That’s according to a report from Bleacher Report, who reference one rival NBA executive who states the San Antonio Spurs and the Minnesota Timberwolves would “be interested in discussing a trade for Beal”.
The Washington Wizards have had a tumultuous start to the season, culminating in a flare-up between players and coaching staff earlier this month.
Reports then emerged soon after that the Wizards have made both Beal and Wall available in potential trade talks.
The Lakers were among teams said to be interested in a possible move for Beal due to their ability to put together an attractive offer.
However, Bleacher Report omit the Lakers from teams considering a trade for the 25-year-old.
It is said the Timberwolves would look at making a move with Beal seen as a perfect replacement for Jimmy Butler.
And the Spurs are said to be interested as they want to add a “three-point shooting threat”.
The report also points to San Antonio’s recent struggles, which has seen them drop to 12th in the Western Conference, as another reason Gregg Popovich and R.C Buford may look to trade for Beal.
