New World server transfers delayed to avoid disruption: Amazon confirms new launch time

The New World server transfer saga continues this week, as Amazon posts another new update.

The Amazon-published massively-multiplayer online RPG has proven incredibly popular since launch; so popular, in fact, that players were queuing to join servers during its first week on sale.

To get around the initial server problems, Amazon encouraged players to join any available servers, before transferring to a new, more desirable server at a later date.

Unfortunately, however, server transfers are yet to materialise, as Amazon delays the feature yet again.

Indeed, server transfers were scheduled to launch at the tail-end of the week, but have been delayed to avoid major disruptions.

An Amazon spokesperson confirmed the news online, telling fans that the feature is ready to go, and will be released next week.

We have the final pieces of the server transfer system tested and ready to go, but we are making a difficult decision to hold it until next week.

“This was a balance call between honouring a date we told you to expect, versus the disruption of a deployment during a peak play period (the weekend).”

According to Amazon, the development team has been working on the feature every day since it was announced.

More details will be announced in the coming days, although it’s likely to be part of the midweek update on October 20.

“We’ve worked on this feature non-stop every day to make good on our date estimations, but releasing it now would mean downtime, server balance changing based on transfers, Wars that might not go through due to different rosters, and the like.

“You can expect several communications coming from our team in the near future, including more specific details around how we are rolling out the transfer feature and a deep dive into the lessons we learned these past couple weeks.”

While the delay is less than ideal, an even bigger issue is the inability to change regions when transferring to a new server. This is despite a previous Amazon statement suggesting otherwise.

This means European users currently playing on a North American server can only transfer to another North American server.

At the time of writing, the only other solution is to start on a new server with a brand new character, which obviously isn’t ideal.

Despite the server problems, New World has been generally well received by fans, who are enjoying the supernatural pirate adventuring.

“Explore a thrilling, open-world MMO filled with danger and opportunity where you’ll forge a new destiny for yourself as an adventurer shipwrecked on the supernatural island of Aeternum,” reads the official description.

“Endless opportunities to fight, forage, and forge await you among the island’s wilderness and ruins.

“Channel supernatural forces or wield deadly weapons in a classless, real-time combat system, and fight alone, with a small team, or in massed armies for PvE and PvP battles—the choices are all yours.”
