Besides being easier on the eyes, dark mode is great for the battery life of OLED devices.
This was recently seen by WhatsApp fans when dark mode was at last rolled out for iOS and Android devices in March.
However, at the time there was debate that the iPhone version was better for battery life as the Android variation doesn’t appear to adopt OLED-friendly true blacks.
Instead, the chat app has a dark grey / greenish tint which means dead pixels on your phone’s display weren’t able to turn off in an attempt to save battery life.
If you’re looking to try out this enhanced Chrome for Android functionality, then there’s two ways you can do so.
You can either download Chrome Canary or Chrome Dev from the Play Store and then enable this flag on chrome://flags page:
• Show darkened search pages on Android
If enabled, users will see a darkened search page if Chrome is in nightmode as well.
