Nintendo Direct July 2020: Hopes first proper Direct in almost a YEAR could air soon
Nintendo could be prepping a new Direct broadcast for July 2020, if the rumour mill is to be believed. It’s been almost a year since the last time the House of Mario aired a full fat Nintendo Direct. The last proper Nintendo Direct that the Switch makers broadcast was back in September of last year.
That came hot on the heels of the Nintendo Direct that aired during E3 2019 in June.
But since then Nintendo Direct fans have had to deal with a lengthy dry spell when there’s been a lack of streams.
Sure, we’ve had plenty of broadcasts focused on specific games, such as the recent Pokemon Presents streams.
And Switch fans also had a Nintendo Direct Mini that was aired in March, which was almost as long as a regular Direct.
But the last time Ninty aired a stream that sported the Nintendo Direct moniker alone was back on September 4 2019.
That broadcast revealed Overwatch for the Nintendo Switch, showcased more footage of Animal Crossing New Horizons and announced Terry Bogard as a DLC character for Smash.
With such a lengthy gap since the last Nintendo Direct, anticipation is extremely high for what the next broadcast has in store.
This is compounded even further by the fact that the Q3 and Q4 release schedule for the Nintendo Switch is looking extremely bare.
Fans have been left hoping that this means Ninty has plenty of announcements up their sleeve which could be getting saved up for the next Direct.
It had been thought that Nintendo were going to hold a Direct in June around the time that E3 was originally scheduled, as they typically do each year.
But, according to VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb, the coronavirus has caused delays to Nintendo’s plans.
Grubb previously reported that the next Nintendo Direct could be as far away as the end of this summer.
However, in a surprise boost it’s emerged that the next Nintendo Direct could be happening much earlier than that.
The news comes courtesy of Twitter user @KeliosFR who was replying to a post from Grubb on the social networking site.
In response to Grubb’s ‘Summer Game Mess’ schedule, which outlines all the confirmed and rumoured events being held, Kelios teased a Direct for July. They posted: “You forgot Nintendo Direct (in July) :3”.
The reason this tweet is of interest is Kelios – like Grubb – revealed Nintendo were planning a March Direct before the broadcast was officially confirmed.
If this rumour is true, then it will go down hugely well with Nintendo fans who are eager for news on what’s coming to the Switch for the remainder of the year.
Leaks have claimed one of the big announcements that will be coming is how Ninty plans to honour Mario’s 35th birthday.
It’s believed Nintendo will release a Super Mario All Stars-style collection for the Nintendo Switch that features remasters of classic 3D games.
The titles rumoured to be getting the remaster treatment are Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy.
While fans will also be hoping for updates on titles we haven’t heard about for awhile such as Zelda Breath of the Wild 2, Metroid Prime 4 and Bayonetta 3.
Reliable leaker Sabi previously claimed that Breath of the Wild 2 was intended to be the big holiday release for the Switch in 2020.
But the leaker later said that development on the title was taking longer than anticipated, and teased it could be getting replaced with a new Mario Kart game.
If that’s the case then we may get the official announcement for Mario Kart 9 during the next Direct.
