‘Nothing changes!’ Red Wall Tory MP blasts Starmer after plea to ex-Labour voters

The Ashfield MP, who won the seat in last year’s general election, spoke out after the Labour leader’s keynote speech in Doncaster on Tuesday. Mr Anderson told Express.co.uk: “My advice to ex-Labour voters is yes by all means have another good look at Labour and you will see that nothing changes.

“The leadership may change but policy hasn’t. Nothing changes and the public aren’t stupid.

“People in South Yorkshire, where Doncaster is, have got new Tory MPs and they’ve already seen a change.

“The MPs are engaging with the constituents and they’ve never seen that before.”

The Tory MP accused Labour of “ignoring” the area for “donkey’s years”.

He added: “The boot’s on the other foot now and it’s time for the electorate to ignore the Labour Party.”

In Sir Keir’s speech, which replaced what would have been his party conference address, he insisted the Brexit argument is finished.

But Mr Anderson said: “Let’s see if he votes for the UK Internal Market Bill.

“If he really believes that Brexit is over he will vote for that.”

“I’m in no doubt they will vote against it. They have learnt no lessons at all.”

In his speech, Sir Keir declared that Labour is under “new leadership” and called on voters who have abandoned the party to reconsider.

He said: “So to those people in Doncaster and Deeside, in Glasgow and Grimsby, in Stoke and in Stevenage, to those who have turned away from Labour, I say this: we hear you.

“Never again will Labour take you or the things you care about for granted. And I ask you: Take another look at Labour.

“We’re under new leadership. We love this country as you do.

“This is the country I grew up in and this is the country I will grow old in. And I want it to be the country I know it can be.”

On Brexit, the Labour leader said: “The debate between Leave and Remain is over.

“We’re not going to be a party that keeps banging on about Europe.”
