OnePlus recently announced its new OnePlus 8 flagship will be revealed to the world on April 14 via a global event which will be live streamed across the planet. Although that date is still days away there’s some news that may have OnePlus’ Android rivals afraid of what’s to come.
According to new tests from the team at DisplayMate – the industry leader when it comes to mobile phone display assessment – the OnePlus 8 has scored the highest ever grade of A+.
DisplayMate’s analysis reveals the OnePlus 8’s panel sets or matches more than 10 Smartphone Display Performance Records in virtually all key categories for the best displays on the market, including colour accuracy, image contrast, display brightness and screen reflection, with four categories marked “visually indistinguishable from perfect”.
That may not come as huge surprise considering OnePlus has already announced that its OnePlus 8 will feature a 120Hz fluid display which should make scrolling through content appear silky smooth and stutter-free.
Along with 120Hz technology, OnePlus has also revealed several other cutting-edge screen features including motion estimate and motion compensation (MEMC) for a much smoother video playback experience and 10-bit colour for a more accurate display of colours across the spectrum.

“OnePlus has quickly established itself as an industry leader in display performance, consistently providing among the best implementations of OLED technology on the market,” said Dr. Raymond Soneira, President of DisplayMate Technologies.
“The OnePlus 8 series continues that tradition of excellence, improving on the outstanding results of last year’s OnePlus 7 series and keeping OnePlus ahead of the curve.”
And OnePlus Founder and CEO Pete Lau added: “Our mission is to deliver the best user experience possible with our flagships.
“The display of a smartphone is the direct medium through which users can enjoy the ‘fast and smooth’ experience offered by OnePlus. That’s why we invested heavily in its R&D and spared no expense to make it one of the best high refresh rate displays in the world.”
Although not confirmed, other features that are expected to arrive on this new flagship will include a fast Qualcomm 865 processor, wireless charging and improved rear camera.
Leaked renders have also revealed OnePlus appears to be ditching the pop-up selfie camera with these new devices getting a lens which will be hole-punched through the display, like on Samsung’s new Galaxy S20 series.
OnePlus will stream the launch of its latest smartphone series on April 14 from 4pm BST.
