It’s been a while since Oppo updated its flagship smartphone range, but it might have been worth the arduous wait. The Oppo Find X2, and particularly the Find X2 Pro, may very well be the best phones revealed in 2020 so far.
As you’d expect, the Oppo Find X2 and Find X2 Pro share a swathe of design characteristics and features, but the latter is undeniably more premium, and not just because of its gorgeous ceramic or leather finish…
The Find X2 Pro has three killer features: the screen, battery and camera.
Let’s start with the display. The Find X2 boasts a 6.7-inch OLED panel with a super smooth 120H refresh rate and a pixel-packed resolution of 1440 x 3168.
In a gut-punch to the Galaxy S20 series, the Oppo Find X2 Pro’s screen is able to be used at max resolution and refresh rate – that means it doesn’t force users to choose between the two, like every member of Samsung’s new smartphone range.
Unsurprisingly, the Find X2 is almost completely free of any bezels. Interestingly, there is a cutout within the display for a single 32-megapixel selfie camera. That’s pretty surprising seeing as Oppo made a big song and dance about the original Find X back in 2018 for it’s bezel, notch and cutout-free display that was made possible because of a motorised pop-up camera system.
Oppo’s design decision means, unfortunately, you don’t get any kind of secure 3D facial unlocking like you do on the Google Pixel 4, Huawei Mate 30 Pro or even the original Find X for that matter.
Turning the Find X2 Pro over reveals a trio of cameras: a primary, telephoto and ultra wide-angle. Oppo was one of the pioneers for periscope-style telephoto cameras, so of course the Find X2 Pro has one that delivers a 5x optical zoom.
On paper, Oppo’s newest handset is using some of the latest and greatest camera hardware on the market. However, we’ll have to see if the firm’s software is just as capable and if photos can compete with that from Google, Apple and Huawei.
Internally, the Find X2 Pro is an absolute beast. The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 along with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. Safe to say, this phone won’t be chugging anytime soon.
And then there’s the battery. The Find X2 Pro comes with rapid 65W wired charging that can refill its sizeable 4,260mAh cell from zero to full in just 38 minutes. That’s easily some of the fastest-charging on the planet, in case you were wondering.
Android 10 comes pre-installed on the device with Oppo’s ColorOS software running on top. Let’s be honest, ColorOS used to be a pretty cluttered mess with a range of duplicate apps and services you had absolutely no need for, but Oppo has made massive strides with it in recent years. ColorOS still isn’t our favourite Android skin (that’s OnePlus’ OxygenOS in case you were wondering) but it definitely comes close.
The Oppo Find X2 Pro will be available from early May and will start at €1,199 and the regular Find X will cost €999.
Both models feature 12GB of RAM – the Find X2 Pro comes with 512GB of internal storage while the Find X has 256GB.
