Power Book II: Ghost spin-off teases rival for Tasha as Locke & Key star joins the cast

Netflix star Sherri Saum has been confirmed to be joining the cast of Power Book II: Ghost. The four new follow-ups to the wildly popular crime drama were in production for Starz before delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Fans have been speculating how the new addition will face off against Ghost’s ex-wife Tasha.

Starz was quick to announce the release of an impressive slate of four spin-offs to Power after finally revealing who shot enigmatic business mogul James ‘Ghost’ St Patrick (played by Omari Hardwick).

After shooting his own father, Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr), along with his mother Tasha (Naturi Naughton) will lead the cast of Power Book II: Ghost.

The first spin-off is lined up to explore the fall-out of Ghost’s murder, including finding a way for Tasha to escape her new prison sentence.

In the last moments of season six, Tasha takes the fall for Ghost’s murder, and is taken away by feds whilst encouraging Tariq to go out and lead a fulfilling life.

Ghost will feature Rainey Jr and Naughton in key roles, joined by Mary J. Blige and Cliff ‘Method Man’ Smith as new characters in Courtney Kemp’s Power franchise.

Sherri Saum has been confirmed to be joining the cast as Paula Matarazzo, a top investigator and ruthless partner of the arrogant defense lawyer Davis MacLean (Method Man).

Confirmed by Deadline, Saum will join the pre-existing cast alongside Mary J. Blige’s lead role as Monet, a powerful player in New York’s business world.

MacLean and Matarazzo could be integral players in releasing Tasha from prison in the new series.

Little is known about Saum’s Book II role, other than being a career-driven investigator who will presumably prove a formidable match for Method Man’s aloof defence lawyer.

Thanks to her close ties with Naughton’s Tasha, she could prove instrumental to the series moving forward and turn up in subsequent spin-offs.

The Power story will also continue with Book III: Raising Kanan, Book IV: Influence and Book V: Force.

Upcoming instalments will explore the lives of Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora) and Rashad Tate (Larenz Tate) following the death of Ghost.

Meanwhile, Raising Kanan will serve as a prequel series starring Mekai Curtis as a younger version of 50 Cent’s character, Kanan Stark.

In recent live chats on her Instagram profile, Courtney Kemp revealed Book II had completed the majority of filming before being delayed by coronavirus.

Although fans were originally expecting Tariq and Tasha back on screens in 2020, Starz won’t be able to air the series until the cast and crew are safe to return.

Power season 6 is available to stream on Netflix.
