Premier League players key to Project Restart decision as neutral ground vote put on hold

The Premier League will meanwhile stick with VAR for the remainder for the rest of the season despite FIFA saying competitions could abandon it in the light of coronavirus.

“Competitions are permitted to cease VAR’s use upon restart at the discretion of each individual competition organiser,” FIFA said.

“However, where VAR is used, all aspects of the Laws of the Game and, by extension, the VAR protocol will remain in place.”

Social distancing problems were originally raised as an issue when authorities first began to discuss returning to the game due to confined space in the control room at Stockley Park.

The German authorities have since modelled a safe way of implementing the technology and there is no incentive to tamper with the integrity of the competition any more than is necessary with the Premier League mindful of keeping conditions as similar as possible.
