Diana has previously described the wedding to Prince Charles at St Paul’s Cathedral as “the worst day of her life”. Things then proceeded to decline when they went on their holiday together after the ceremony, with the trip allegedly turning into a “nightmare” for the princess after an upsetting discovery.
The couple’s honeymoon was several weeks long beginning with a 14-day cruise through the Mediterranean and Aegean onboard the Royal Yacht Britannia.
However, romance was off the cards, as Diana revealed in letters that she had spent her honeymoon “catching up on sleep”.
Written on Royal Yacht Britannia crested paper and dated August 15, 1981, she wrote: ”The honeymoon was a perfect opportunity to catch up on sleep….”

There were also many staff onboard the ship including 21 naval officers, royal staff and a crew of more than 200 men leaving little room for privacy.
In her book The Untold Story, royal author Penny Junor wrote: “On one occasion, Diana and Charles had been consulting their diaries when a photograph of Camilla fell out of his pocket.
“Another time, when they were in formal dress for dinner, [Diana] noticed the prince was wearing a pair of gold cufflinks engraved with interwoven Cs.”
Diana was allegedly heartbroken after seeing the engraving which stood for Charles and Camilla.

Junor also revealed that Charles brought along “watercolours and some canvases and a pile of books by Laurens van der Post, which he’d hoped they might share and discuss in the evenings.”
But the princess did not enjoy the same hobbies as Charles and thought it was an excuse for him to ignore her.
On the last part of their honeymoon, they visited Balmoral Castle, where Diana broke down crying for six hours on arrival as she was not fond of the place.
The couple were married for 11 years till they divorced in 1996.

Following their divorce, Diana enjoyed spending time at her Kensington Palace residence but grew unnerved as she was convinced there were spy cameras throughout the home.
A lot of issues the princess had with the royal family were because she felt spied upon.
In his book, Diana: Her True Story, Andrew Morton recalls her mention of the spy cameras as she realised her marriage was over.
“She remembers the occasion well, driving out of the claustrophobia of Kensington Palace with its spy cameras, watchful courtiers and prison walls to her favourite stretch of beach on the Dorset coast,” He wrote.
Charles and Diana
In the end, it was revealed that Diana was not paranoid, as the National Security Agency admitted in 1998 to spying on the princess.
The Mirror reported at the time: “America’s spy chiefs admitted last night they snooped on Princess Diana for years — and learned some of her most intimate love secrets.
“The Daily Record claimed that the NSA intercepts have gone on right until she died in the Paris car crash with Dodi.”
While she was married to Charles, the princess often felt that she could not respond or react to how she was feeling publicly.

Living in Kensington Palace until her death in 1997, Princess Diana had a cleaner, cook, dresser and her butler Paul Burrell.
She would only have police protection when attending large public events, but in her day to day life she refused to have security guards.
