A surge in PSN downloads is on the cards in the coming weeks with the launch of the new PS Plus free games in April. The good news is that we already know what Sony is planning and the new titles that will be available to claim. Via a recent leak from a PlayStation YouTube Channel, it was confirmed that Dirty Rally 2.0 and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be included.
These were featured in an unlisted PlayStation Access video which could make for a popular mix.
This video has now been taken down and is no longer available to watch on the official PlayStation Access YouTube Channel.
But if it proves to be correct, there’s a good chance that a lot of people will be wanting to add these games to their digital libraries.
Not only can the new collection draw people into downloading them but there’s the added situation of more gamers being home due to Coronavirus quarantines.
This could see more downloads happening on April 7, which is when Uncharted 4 and Dirt Rally 2.0 are expected to go live.
With that in mind, Sony’s Jim Ryan revealed earlier this month that they were planning to manage speeds, telling fans:
“Sony Interactive Entertainment is working with internet service providers in Europe to manage download traffic to help preserve access for the entire internet community.
“We believe it is important to do our part to address internet stability concerns as an unprecedented number of people are practicing social distancing and are becoming more reliant on internet access.
“Players may experience somewhat slower or delayed game downloads but will still enjoy robust gameplay. We appreciate the support and understanding from our community, and they’re doing their part, as we take these measures in an effort to preserve access for everyone.”
And in a new update, Ryan has revealed that something similar is being worked on for the United States, adding: “We will take similar measures in the United States, and we will continue to take appropriate action to do our part to help ensure internet stability as this unprecedented situation continues to evolve.
“We are grateful for the role we play in helping deliver a sense of community and entertainment in these very trying times. Thank you again for your support, your patience, and for being part of the PlayStation community. Please stay home and stay safe.”
Sony is expected to officially reveal its plans for the PS Plus subscription in the coming days.
This should happen on Wednesday, April 1, 2020, and will be followed by the new games going live the following week.
Until then, PS Plus gamers will be able to download Shadow of the Colossus and Sonic Forces, which are the March titles available to download.
More about those two games can be found below:
Shadow of the Colossus – Tales speak of an ancient realm where Colossi roam the majestic landscape. Bound to the land, these creatures hold a key to a mystical power of revival — a power you must obtain to bring a loved one back to life. Shadow of the Colossus is a breathtaking journey through ancient lands to seek out gigantic beasts. Armed with only a sword and a bow, explore the spacious lands and unearth each Colossus, presenting a unique challenge to test your wits, determination, and skill.
Sonic Forces – In Sonic Forces, the evil Dr. Eggman has conquered much of the world with help from a powerful and mysterious new villain named Infinite. Now, you must assist Sonic and build an army to reclaim the world as they fight against chaos and destruction. Defeat enemies with blazing speed as Modern Sonic, catapult past perilous platforms as Classic Sonic, and create your very own Custom Hero Character equipped with a variety of powerful gadgets.
